Apply for roles

Here is the list of positions you can get involved in, divided by how the election works, and what the application process looks like.

How the elections work

The board is elected by you (yes, you!) at guild meetings. After that, the committee chair, together with their vice and the nomination committee, prepares a proposal for officials for their committee — usually via interviews. The proposal is presented to the board, which approves the election at a board meeting. Some roles beyond the board are elected at guild meetings, and some you can get without an interview (e.g. working in the café).

Elections at Guild Meetings

  1. 1 Wait for the nomination committee to announce the election (a few weeks before the meeting).
  2. 2 Fill out the form and book an interview.
  3. 3 Attend the interview (see How to Interview).
  4. 4 You either become the nomination committee's proposal or not.
  5. 5 If you did not become the nomination committee's proposal: submit counter-candidacy to the speaker.
  6. 6 Attend the meeting.
  7. 7 Go up and hold a speech (4–7 mins depending on the position).
  8. 8 Answer questions from the audience.
  9. 9 The guild makes its decision while you wait outside.

Note: if you do not attend the interview with the nomination committee, you cannot counter-candidate. The exception is roles where the nomination committee does not present a proposal — then floor candidacy is allowed (anyone can go up and speak at the meeting).

Nomination committee representative elected at HTM-1 is not interviewed — only floor candidacy. [HIGHLY RECOMMENDED FOR FRESHMEN]

Elections of Committee positions

Most elections are carried out by committee nomination boards. They consist of the committee chair, usually their vice, a nomination committee representative, and someone active in the committee in previous years. They prepare, announce, and manage the election — examples: Hovmästare, Brunchmästare, Sports Official, Photographer, DWWW Coordinator, Peppare.

Interview-based election

  1. 1. Wait for the election to be announced.
  2. 2. Apply for the position, book an interview (or receive interview time).
  3. 3. Prepare for the interview (see How to Interview).
  4. 4. Attend the interview.
  5. 5. Cross your fingers. The nomination board sits down and discusses all candidates — personal relationships are disregarded, everyone has an equal chance.
  6. 6. The nomination board notifies the guild and the Board of who they nominate.
  7. 7. At the next board meeting, the person(s) are elected by the Board. You cannot counter-candidate. You are welcome to watch the election, but do not have to.
  8. 8. It is fine to ask for feedback on why you were not chosen.

Form-based election

  1. 1. Wait for the election to be announced.
  2. 2. Apply for the position, fill out the form as thoroughly as you can.
  3. 3. Cross your fingers. After the application period, the nomination board discusses all candidates — personal relationships are disregarded, everyone has an equal chance.
  4. 4. The nomination board notifies the guild and the Board of who they nominate.
  5. 5. At the next board meeting, the person(s) are elected by the Board. You cannot counter-candidate.
